Approximately 60 percent of Washington's residents live in the Seattle metropolitan area, the centre of transportation, business and industry. Washington was named after George Washington and is the only U.S. state named after a president. To distinguish it from the country’s capital, it is usually referred to as “the State of Washington”. The population is of approximately 7 million people.
